Rhythm Boxes! Black and White Studies followed by color

Black and white composition studies to practice abstracting  broadcast station logos and network brands for use as package elements.  We're trying to find a design "rhythm" here a beat structure based on a grid to organize our designs.

Use ABC and FOX network logos, black and white version, abstractly (meaning scaled, cut up, and rotated.)  Use simple shapes as well.

We must use a design grid for placing key tangents (places where major shapes intersect.)  Try to find rhythm to your placement of shapes, do not place randomly.

Again, this drill is for practicing layouts for broadcast design: so we must use a 16:9 viewing window / Adobe Illustrator.

No lines, no strokes solid black and white tones only.

After these are complete, let's fill in the details and produce color, rendered styleframes.  I'm putting mine right below my black and white studies.

(here are my entries)

  1. I'm really digging the streamlined approach with ABC1. Something very simple, but very balanced. Using the FOX & ABC logo as repeating linear elements is something I want to be more mindful to include in future concepts.

Second one reminds me of Yo MTV RAPS
Third one reminds me of a rebel flag
Fourth one reminds me of archery
Fifth one reminds me of CAB
Sixth one reminds me of eye exams and the number 5
